Activity: Brainstorming of ideas for Project C
Notes:
I’m going to work on Project C with Šimon Svoboda. We’ve discussed what the genre of the game would be. We’ve both come to the conclusion that it’d make sense if it was either 2D platformer or 2D top-down game. We were both against a 3D game since it’d take more time than a 2D.
Afterwards, we’ve discussed the specifics of the game. Šimon has come up with an idea for a platformer some time ago but hasn’t implemented all the features to the fullest. He suggested that we could start from scratch and implement it properly.
The game is a 2D platformer that takes some inspiration from games like Hollow Knight and some metroidvania titles. The main game mechanic is roughly inspired by a Flash game called Stick War and mainly by having one specific mechanic: the main character would be able to throw a spear to kill his enemies as well as to get through the puzzles that the game presents to the player. However, once the player throws the spear, he loses it until he retrieves it by going to the place where it hit the target. In the meantime, the main character could be equipped with a small knife of a dagger to potentially fight off enemies. Also by throwing the spear against a wall, the player can easily crate a platform for the main character to jump onto.
Throughout the game, the player would obtain power-ups and other special skills that would help the player overcome the obstacles. We’re both happy about the rough ideas and we’ve also divided the work between ourselves. Šimon would like to take care of most of the programming and would like to try and create the soundtrack for the game. I’d take care of the design of the level, puzzles, artwork and occasionally programming.
